Exploring the Last Frontier

summer 2019
with Diana Bryson Barnes & Karen Score

When people ask her where she’s from, Diana tells them, “a magical little island in southeast Alaska, surrounded by jade green waters and washed with more shades of green than you can imagine.”  Wrangell is the place that wrapped Diana with love and kindness in a crisis, and it is the community that modeled character, integrity, loyalty, and acceptance for her as a young child and into adulthood. And it has always welcomed her home, no matter how much time has passed between visits.

Southeast Alaska is extraordinary. It is stunning in its natural beauty and abundant in its wildlife. It is in the Tongass National coastal rainforest, tucked into the southern part of the state just north of British Columbia. Accessible by boat or plane, Wrangell has a refreshing climate of “liquid sunshine” you can count on, a charming broad main street, plenty of wild blueberries and salmon berries, muskeg, moss, ferns, fabulous fishing, hiking, kayaking, glacier watching, whale spouting, bear watching, eagle spotting, sea otter contemplating and more. Wrangell is also home to the absolute, unequivocally, most fun, best celebrated, biggest, fourth of July celebration in the nation! It goes on for days—something you have to experience to believe it.

This 9-day adventure included accommodations, meals, transportation, and excursions to: Mt. Roberts Tramway, Mendenhall Glacier, Glacier Bay Visitors Center, AnAn, Mt. Dewey, Petroglyphs Beach, Rainbow Falls, and a cultural talk/traditional native dancing at Chief Shakes Gravesite.

Testimonial:

“We recently went on the Alaskan trip with Karen and Grace in Nature Unlimited. The trip was amazing! Loved not having to worry about anything, as Karen had all the arrangements lined up for the group. Many outings and excursions filled our days. From hikes, food tours, museums, shows, glaciers and waterfalls, boat ride to see the bears, mining for gold, and of course the Ferry to Wrangell! All were AMAZING! Karen had the groups flight itinerary’s and knew when and where to be for arrivals, as well as departures… She had meals arranged so we could spend time enjoying our delicious meals all together. ‘Free’ days were included so we could venture off and do whatever we chose to do. This was an absolutely fabulous adventure for my husband and I. Alaska was on his Bucket List, and we did it! Neither of us travel much, but we would, and are, considering joining Karen on another trip. Thanks Karen, it was a Trip of a Lifetime.”
