Lima, Sacred Valley + Cusco
Spring 2022
with Karen Score & Gina Benson
We began our adventure in Lima, the Capitol of Peru, staying in an authentic and charming turn of the century mansion located in the beautiful Miraflores neighborhood on the Pacific Coastline. We spent time exploring all the important historical sites in Lima along with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from the Ocean Front Boardwalk, including Parque del Amor.
After a few good nights sleep and getting grounded, we took a domestic flight to Cusco where we were picked up and transported to our beautiful retreat center in the heart of the Sacred Valley.
While at one of the premiere retreat centers in the Sacred Valley, we spent time soaking up the splendor and beauty of the surrounding area. We enjoyed a daily offering of yoga (always optional) focused on the seven chakras (energy centers or wheels within our bodies). The Sacred Valley itself is considered to be the Sacral Chakra of Mother Earth and an extremely potent energy vortex. So, if you’re looking for any kind of healing power in your life, moving through a weeklong Chakra Yoga Practice is the thing to do and this is the absolute perfect place to be!
Along with having plenty of time to relax, get a delightful spa treatment, star gaze, enjoy a local tour via horseback, and get a Coca Leaf Reading, we had the opportunity to make a visit to some awe inspiring Inca Ruins and quaint Andean villages and markets.
After gradually getting acclimated to the altitude, we headed off toward the highlight of our journey—Machu Picchu!
Along the way we made a pitstop at the ruins in Ollantaytambo (the entrance point to the Amazon corner of the Inca Empire) and then took the train the rest of the way to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where we spent the night in a lovely hotel. From there, we headed up to Machu Picchu in time to see the sunrise as it illuminated one row of granite stones at a time! After learning about the known facts, legends, and contemplating the mysteries of Machu Picchu on a guided tour, we had plenty of time to explore on our own, as well as sit and soak up the healing energy of this magical place!
Our last stop was Cusco, where we explored the original capital of the Inca Empire, including its fascinating architecture, markets and shops. After our final dinner together and a good night’s rest in another lovely establishment, we departed for home with a renewed spirit, increased vitality and energy, and a vast appreciation for the history, skills and knowledge of the Incas and the beautiful planet we call Earth (aka HOME).
Testimonial:
“I recently returned from the Grace in Nature retreat that took place in the Sacred Valley. Although one may think of this as simply a trip or a vacation, I consider it a profound experience. It is hard to explain the significance of visiting the ancient ruins of Pisaq, Moray and Machu Picchu. Each day I had the opportunity to learn about the ancient civilizations and the current life in Peru. Our guides on this adventure were open and caring about Peru and the lessons it has to offer.
The accommodations were wonderful and the itinerary was full but not overwhelming. When I reflect on this trip, one casual after dinner event that keeps coming to mind was the viewing the night sky, the stars of Southern Hemisphere, with a local astronomer. It was breath taking to see the Milky Way bookended by the Andes.
Karen and Gina guided our group, which became a family through all of our time in Peru. It was an experience of a lifetime and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have shared it with such wonderful people. I would recommend this adventure for all!”
